However, because this particular degree is quite competitive, students generally need to secure an ATAR of 99.55 with a UCAT cut-off score of around 3,060 to be competitive for an interview offer.

The Rural Entry Scheme (RES) was first introduced in 1997 and runs alongside the local entry application process. In 2023, RES applicants made up at least 29% of UNSW medicine domestic intake.
To be eligible for the RES, applicants must be an Australian/New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident that has lived in a defined Australian rural area, MMM 2 - 7 (Modified Monash Model classification system) for at least five consecutive or ten cumulative years between the ages of five (5) and eighteen (18).
