University of Tasmania Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine Overview

Degrees offered: Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine

Duration: ~6-7 Years

In first three years, students will experience campus-based learning, including lectures, practical classes, and early patient contact across various settings, particularly emphasizing community and rural healthcare. This approach aims to produce versatile graduates capable of adapting to diverse healthcare environments. The third year marks a significant shift, focusing more on clinical settings, preparing students for the practical aspects of their future careers.

The final two years involve immersive clinical rotations, including electives, across three Clinical Schools:

Hobart Clinical School
Launceston Clinical School
Rural Clinical School in Burnie

This period emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration and offers a chance to engage in a research or professional project, honing skills in research, leadership, and health systems change.

Applicants will be ranked for an offer based on a combination of scores from these three components as follows:

Students need a UCAT of around 2530 to be competitive for the interview offer process.
Interview (MMI)
The University of Tasmania does not conduct interviews during selection for the Medicine Program.
Academics
You'll need an ATAR of at least 99.45 to be competitive in the interview selection process.

What is the ATAR requirement for University of Tasmania medicine?

The University of Tasmania has indicated that the minimum ATAR for Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine, including any adjustment for rural status, is 95.
