Pathways to Medicine in Australia

Undergraduate Medicine (~4 - 5 years)

This pathway is open to school-leavers and involves direct entry into a medical degree straight out of school, at the end of which they graduate with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS/MBChB). This pathway is offered by select universities, to students who perform exceptionally well in school and in the UCAT.

Provisional Entry into Postgraduate Medicine (~6 - 7 years)

Similar to the undergraduate program, this pathway is open to school leavers in Australia only, who have achieved a 99+ ATAR score. Instead of granting students direct entry into undergraduate medicine they go into postgraduate medicine without sitting the GAMSAT. This means that students complete any undergraduate degree upon leaving school and transition seamlessly into postgraduate medicine.

Postgraduate Medicine (~6 - 8 years)

This pathway is open to those who have completed any undergraduate degree at university. The degree offered is the Doctor of Medicine (MD). For this pathway, students can apply through GEMSAS - the Graduate Medical School Consortium - as well as direct-to-institution for some universities. Learn more about Postgraduate medical school.

Which ever pathway you’re aiming to achieve, MedView can help!
