Overview
The University of Waikato is establishing New Zealand's third medical school, approved by the government in 2025. Based in Hamilton, it will offer a graduate-entry programme designed to train doctors for rural and regional communities, with the first intake planned for 2028.
Entry pathway
As a graduate-entry programme, Waikato's medical school will admit students who have already completed a bachelor's degree. Full selection criteria and admissions requirements will be confirmed by the university ahead of the first 2028 intake.
